I recently finished this landscape painting of Island View Road on Mission Peninsula. It’s the second landscape I’ve painted this season. For the moment I’ve moved onto new subjects, but it felt really good to get this out of my system. This spot is only 8 minutes from our house, and though I come across views like this often, I still pinch myself.
Most my life, I’ve been a runner. I used to be a pretty serious runner, now I’m lucky when I find myself on the pavement sans stroller, but moments on the road like this have empowered me in a very meaningful way. I think Helen Hunt described it perfectly in What Women Want.
My process of painting a landscape is very different from painting figures. It’s much more forgiving and allows me to really let loose and explore. I took four years of ceramics in high school, and I found this process quite similar - building up and carving out. Sculptural. Meditative. You can watch some of the process here.
This piece will go on display at Farm Club TC next Monday. It will be available to purchase at Farm Club and is also now listed on my site:
I shared this on an Instagram story, but I should probably clarify here, I am unfortunately not offering a calendar this year.
I did not have the bandwidth between our move and the mural to prepare a collection I was really proud of, and I decided to spend the time I usually pack + ship to focus on my painting practice. My goal is to have a calendar next holiday season, hopefully along with some more holiday products!
However, I do have a couple new offerings to deck your walls this season!
I just added a new Samsung Frame package to my site, Shapes + Figures. It includes four works: Through-Lines (pictured), a Charcoal Figure Drawing, Cool Down and Shapes of November.
I also added a new print, Shapes of November. This print is available in sizes 8x10 to 36x48 on paper or gallery wrapped canvas.
Some holiday things…
I loved this episode of the Wirecutter Show all about Thanksgiving dinner. Made me wish I lived near the ocean and could getaway with oysters as an appetizer!
This time of year I always love to share my* Gather Spotify playlist.
It’s upbeat, cozy, jazzy, and really gets ya in the gatherin’ mood. I think it’s important not to skip over this season of giving thanks, and postponing holiday music just a little longer helps with that! Just my hot take!
*Admittedly Dave curates most of it, which trust me, is for the best.
I’m not yet blasting Christmas music, but I am starting to plan for holiday decorating! Some of my favorites below…
Our Tree Skirt, heirloom quality!
Velvet Ribbon - for wrapping presents, tying in hair, zhushing up greenery…
Taper Candles to place in vintage brass candlestick holders
Stockings, more heirlooms
And the most impressive faux garland I’ve ever seen. This is our first year with a real banister and I can’t wait to dress her up. To calculate how much garland you need for your stairs, measure your railing in inches and multiply by 1.5.
I made a Shop My page with all my holiday favorites, you can browse here.
The road painting is by far one of my favorites!
